Women play a dual role both at home and at the work place. There is a sustainable increase among women who go out for work due to economic compulsion, soaring price rise, preference for modern living and to utilise the acquired education. In India, one in three of all adult women aged 15-49 are in the workforce and engaged in almost every economic activity. Child rearing continues to be the job of the mother in India and importance of breast-feeding is stressed, all the more, these days. Although many factors are involved, the decline in breast feeding both in developed and developing countries is attributed to the large number of women working outside the home, the availability of large number of infant weaning foods and the lack of nutrition counseling. Hence this research was undertaken to study the association of maternal employment on the feeding practices and the nutritional status of their infants.- Book Review

Good nutrition, in the early months of life, is more usually determined by feeding practices-whether the right food is given at the right time and in the right way and by the right frequency. Breast feeding ensures this start because of its many unique advantages for the child's physical, mental and psychological development. Breastmilk is child's first immunization. Breast feeding should be continued for one year or as long as possible.- Effect of Nutrition Education of Mothers on the Nutritional Status of Infants

Today's infants are the gems of future generation and are the future inheritors of this planet. Therefore it is important that we have a basic understanding of and access to the available positive information about the various aspects of caring for infants and contribute to their healthy environment, Despite progress in food production, disease control and economic and social development, India accounts for 40 percent of the world's malnourished children with less than 20 percent of the global child population.- Nutritional Profile of Institutionalised Orphan Children in Pondicherry

Malnutrition has been one of the 'major causes of ill health in many developing countries including India. Realising the serious health implications of the prevalent malnutrition the Government of India initiated a number of nutrition action programmes for the vulnerable segments of population Experience with the implementation of the above programmes suggested that unless these programmes are integrated with general health services and educational services, no lasting benefits would accrue to the people. Hence the concept of integrated child development services (ICDS) was developed by Ministry of Social Welfare in 1975.- Nutritional Profile of the Selected Fisherfolk Families in Thrikkunnapuzha Village of Alleppey District Kerala
